Details...
We will kick things off on the Friday of each weekend at 6pm like we did for the first Open Studio, revealing the theme and getting to know each other.  We can have the building open that night for a few hours if people want to stay and create, and then break for the night and come back the next day, around noon, to work together.

We will keep with the creation theme...I am about to reveal the next theme early to you all, so if you don't want to know, close your eyes...

For the month of march, the theme will be "re-create" where each artist will have to use a recycled object in their piece (all the credit on this theme goes to Julie.  Nice work).  The reason I am telling you the theme early this time is that we need to come up with a bunch of fun, crazy, and intriguing objects that people can pick from to use in their piece.  These objects can pretty much be anything that you have around the house that you are either looking to get rid of or otherwise would throw away. So start collecting and be creative!

The art that was created from the last Open Studio is currently in my office waiting to be hung in the lobby of the block.

Reflection on our First Meeting

Open Studio has begun!  Our first meeting in February was really enjoyable.  We all met on Friday night, February 4th, and discussed the theme for February: "create/creation."  We then decided to break for the evening, go home, think about it, and return on Saturday at noon with materials in hand, ready to work.

There is something amazing about creating in the midst of others.  There was an energy that was stirred in the space.  We listened to music, shared ideas and materials, talked, laughed, and got to watch art come to life.  What a gift to be in the company of others, creating toward a common theme.  It was awesome to see how differently the theme was interpreted from person to person as well.

Come join us March 18th and 19th...

Welcome To Open Studio...

We started as a small group of people with a vision for building a community of artists.  And when we say artists, we mean all people.

Mission: To awaken and nurture the creator in all of us; to foster a community of artists

Vision:
Create a meaningful, inspirational, accepting space for people to explore and connect through various forms of artistic/creative expression

Values/Principles: All people are creative

Art/Creative Expression is all encompassing - music, dance, movement, visual arts, performing arts, writing, working wtih nature, cooking, surfing, chalk on the sidewalk, love letters, a lit candle, shadows, crafts, on and on....

Art/Creative Expression has little to do with talent, but everything to do with honesty and perseverance
