Open Studio This Saturday, January 19th from 12-3pm! Come Join Us!

Hi Creative Friends,

"Creativity takes courage." - Henri Matisse

Doesn't it though?  At last Open Studio, dear Janet had painted this lovely floral scene but wasn't pleased with it, so she went over it with white paint to start fresh.  She called it her "Bravery Painting" because she was willing to let go of it, and start anew. I was so proud of her!  In my opinion, this gives a painting depth.  There's more to the painting than meets the eye.  There's a story behind it of trials and tribulations that have gone before.  There are layers instead of one flat picture.  Isn't this true of life too?  Have you ever thought of your life as a painting that is constantly being added to, sometimes messy, sometimes beautiful, sometimes in need of a white wash, full of layers, always in progress, all being handled by a master artist?

Come Be Courageous and Play At Open Studio This Saturday!
You are all invited.  Bring your friends too.  We have some fun tasks at hand, and we would love for you to come play with us!. Bring plastic water bottles this weekend to donate for art - we need them for an up-coming event!
Saturday, January 19th

Open Studio is safe and encouraging creative time and space for all people of all ages.
Bring (water bottles this weekend!) and your art supplies, whatever they may be...guitar, dancing shoes, paint brushes, canvas, notebook, camera, ingredients for cooking, etc.  We have art supplies and snacks to share too if you'd like to try something new, and we will be working on some projects for the SMUD Youth Energy Summit....

Open Studio and SMUD unite!!
Open Studio is honored to participate in SMUD's Annual Youth Energy Summit (high school students) on January 25th and 26th!   https://www.smud.org/en/residential/education-safety/teachers-and-students/classroom-resources/youth-energy-summit.htm

We will be donating water bottle flower centerpieces that we create for their Friday night dinner, and will be hosting a booth on Saturday morning and afternoon, providing demos to students about how to create recycled art.  Here are some ways YOU can get involved:

1. Donate plastic bottles on Saturday, Jan 19th at Open Studio anytime between 12 and 3pm
2. Come to Open Studio on Saturday, Jan 19th and help us create the centerpieces this weekend (bring any recycled materials that could act as the "vases" - soup cans, kleenex boxes, all ideas welcome...get creative!
3. Let me know if you would like to represent Open Studio with the art demo on Saturday, January 26th from 10am - 1pm at the Youth Energy Summit, no experience necessary...it will be simple and fun!  Would love to have you join us!

Redemption Garden is Donated To Local Women's Shelter
We were so fortunate to have Chris Steiner from St. John's Shelter Program for Women and Children join us at last Open Studio.  She gave us information on the shelter, and thanked us for donating our Redemption Garden art installation to their expanded facility opening up later this year.  Their program is called "Bloom" which goes perfectly with aesthetic of Redemption Garden (more information, look at our archives atwww.openstudioart.blogspot.com).  It truly feels as though this connection was divinely orchestrated, and it is such a blessing knowing that the art is now serving a new and beautiful purpose!

Unique Opportunity To Share Your Art
Fremont Presbyterian Church will be hosting a 2-day art show in early February (details in the attached flyer).  This is a really unique opportunity to show your work to the community.  I plan to participate!  If you have ever even considered showing your work, I would encourage you to consider this venue.  My dear friend, and fellow Open Studio-er, Julie always says, creating artwork is only part of the process, the other part is sharing it.  It requires courage!  I know you have it in you! It is a simple application process, just get pictures of your work sent by January 21st!

May you find the time and courage to be creative this week.  It could be as simple as positioning a conversation differently, handling a problem or a conflict in a new creative way, or it could be expressing yourself through a poem, leaving a kind note on a stranger's car, singing with your friends...whatever it is, try it, see how it goes.  Hope to see you at Open Studio this weekend!

Creatively yours,
Katie
