Mandy is a fabulous friend of mine, and an incredibly talented artist, face painter, illustrator, etc., etc., etc., she does it all!  Here's a little message I received from her recently.  I encourage you to check out her online face painting tutorial and "like" her video!

"So, Walt Disney said...if you can dream it you can do it...Here's a dream on mine...to get into the NYX Face Awards to help launch my career in extreme makeup and face painting.
I was wondering if you had time you could give the video attached a little thumbs up (hit the like button).  It is my entry into the NYX Face Awards...a contest designed specifically for You Tube vloggers like me that aspire to be extreme makeup artists/face & body painter.  Part of the judging is how many likes you have...

I would really appreciate it!!!!!

 Who?
Writing people - who already incorporate the act of writing as a means of capturing  thoughts and experiences.
Non-Writing people - who are curious about finding buried stories and want to experiment with this enriching process.
Curious people - who value words, stories, time alone, and connecting for the purpose of finding deeper meaning.

What?

Mining With a Feather retreats derive from understanding language as a gift unique to human beings and a powerful way to connect to others.  The stories we carry, often unawares, set the trajectory of what our future is meant to accomplish.  The retreats offer participants tools and instruction to excavate unspoken words and unexplored stories.  Gathering fragmented memories and impressions propels participants toward healing and joy.
The writing is not about grammar, punctuation, criticism or self-improvement.
The theme of this retreat is  Beginnings.  We will explore this theme through a Word Harvest.  During the two days of guided writing, we will attend to  words that bubble up and nurture them into sentences and stories.   Participants will examine, question and explore fledgling thoughts and ideas in the context of stories.

Why?
We live in a culture where everyone’s talking.  Mining With a Feather retreats are for listening, reflecting and discovering.  Writers’ natural voices are encouraged and supported.  Participants are nudged further along the path their souls yearn to go.
Writing creates a watershed, a release, an avenue through which our deepest humanity can flow.  When we write from those deep places we give voice to the human condition.
When?
May 31 – June 1, 2013
6:30-9:00 Guided Writing (Dinner Included)

GIANT Collaborative Art Project Continues...

Our art project is "blooming" right before our very eyes.  It is so fun to see all ages, boys and girls, men and women, engaged in creating art together...out of recycled materials!  All of the individual creations that people are making will come together in an art installation that will be unveiled at Easter.  Although unsure of the exact final product, we are all trusting in the process, and contributing our part to the greater whole.

Get involved!  This is a community project.  We need as many hands as possible!

We'll be getting together again on Sunday, March 18th at around 11:30am.  There is a 10am service at The Block.  You are welcome to join us for that too.  We will get together to create right afterwards.  Everyone is welcome!

What: Community art project!...you just need to be able to operate a pair of scissors.
Who: Everyone welcome!  All ages.
When: Sunday, March 18th at 11:30am
Where: The Block - part of Lakeside Church Campus
755 Oak Avenue Parkway
Folsom, CA 95630
Why?: Because it's fun!

Be A Part of Something Big...

Artichoke by Lisa Magruder
February 2012 Open Studio is a Big Deal!

Why?

First of all, because it's our first anniversary.  (Woohoo!)

Second of all, because we are working on a big project!  I'll give you some hints - it incorporates recycling, creating, and collaboration.  It is something that needs a lot of hands and will continue over the next few months...the final product will be unveiled at Easter!  Come be a part of something big, and beautiful, and meet awesome people in the meantime.  All skill levels and ages welcome.  (Adult supervision for small children, please.)

Come to Open Studio this weekend for more details, and bring as many plastic bottles as you can find!

As always, you are welcome to work on your own creative projects at Open Studio whatever they may be, but you are also welcome to join us in what will prove to be an awesome collaborative project.

THEME
Let's go with the same theme as last month: "Winter". (Ideas from Leah Piken Kolidas, creative blogger, and I've expanded some of them)

*Paint in the colors of winter.
*Go out into nature and take pictures of the snow or the bare branches against the sky.
*Cook cozy comfort foods.
*Create an environment that warms you up and inspires you. (candles, cocoa, and blanket forts?)
*Write a poem about the darker months of the year.
*As this year comes to its conclusion, take some time to reflect on what the last 12 months has held for you.
*Create art that plays with idea of hibernation.
*Dream up ways to bring more color into your life this season
*Write a song, choreograph a dance that encompasses "winter"
*other!

PROJECTS
1. Help decorate the outside of a portfolio (collage, painting, other)
2. We want to create a collaborative piece that represents and communicates Open Studio to others. Think of what Open Studio represents to you, and how you might contribute to this piece.
3. We will have a long-term Easter project that we announce at Open Studio
Again, theme and projects are optional.

Hope to see you this Saturday!
Love from,
